William Lovett letters, 1859-1864.

This collection contains letters to and from William Lovett. Most are from Sallie [Sarah McGahee Lovett] to her husband, William Lovett, written from Troup County, Georgia, and Rocky Mount, Meriwether County, Georgia. They are written to William while he was fighting in the 41st Georgia Infantry Regiment during the Civil War; they tell of home life in war time. There are two letters written by William Lovett: the first, in 1859, was written before they were married; the other is dated Camp Near Dalton, Ga., March 10, 1864, and pertains to his personal affairs. There are a few letters from other members of the family. One letter to Lovett, written Dec. 8, 1860, with an undecipherable signature, was from a jilted girl, written just a few days before his marriage to Sallie. Typed copies of the letters are filed with them.
